REPORT OF ONE DAY ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION PROGRAM ON 01 DEC. 2005 IN SWAYAMBHU ENVIRONMENT PARK
Introduction:
Environmental education (EE) to the four public school children around Swayambhu area for one day was organized on 01 Dec. 2005. Five students and one teacher from Shree Jansudhar Primary School, Swayambhu, five students and one teacher from Iswor Primary School, Bhagawanpau, Swayambhu, five students and one teacher from Yuva Sahabhagita Secondary School, Chagdol, Swayambhu and six students and one teacher from Panchakanya Secondary School, Chauni had participated in the program. Altogether 21 students and 4 teachers from four public schools were present. They participated in the program very actively showing a great zeal and interest.
Main Objectives of the Program:
- The main objectives of this EE program is to introduce Swayambhu Environment Park (SEP) among school children and teachers of Swayambhu area and others.
- To impart the knowledge of conservation and preservation of indigenous plants and fauna of SEP as well as Nepal
- To develop and enhance the knowledge about environment and its conservation of flora and fauna of SEP and Nepal
- To develop and demonstration of the art skill of students and teachers to use waste materials properly with environmental consciousness.
Methodology used:
- Invitation to the school children and teachers of four different public schools situated around Swayambhu.
- Coordinator Suresh Shakya conduct the program at 09:45 A.M.
- Introduction of CENEED and SEP with its aims and objectives by General Secretary Mr. Surya Bahadur Mulmi
- Briefing about field visit in SEP and Swayambhu forest by Mr. Suresh Shakya, coordinator for EE
- Separate the students and teachers into four different groups led by Suresh Shakya for Panchakanya Secondary School, Dr. Keshab Shrestha for Yuva Sahabhagita Secondary School, Mrs. Puspa Shrestha for Shree Jansudhar Primary School and Punnya Poudel, Aoki and Yoshio Sasaki for Iswor Primary School.
- Field visit and collection of dry leaves, stems, fruits, flowers, seeds, feathers lying on the ground and others in SEP and Swayambhu forest and explanation about flora and fauna of the area from 10:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M.
- Return back in CENEED office and demonstration of Origami and its method and importance by Yoshio Sasaki
- Making use of collected dry leaves, stems, fruits, flowers, seeds, feathers and others by creating different materials using their personnel art skills and environmental knowledge from 1:00 to 2:30 P.M.
- Display of wall papers and students’ work with briefing by the respective student leaders about environment and its importance for conservation
- Refreshment at 3:00 P.M.
- Interpretation of importance of flora and fauna and its conservation and preservation by Dr. Keshab Shrestha, President CENEED at 3:30 P.M.
- Briefing about importance of EE by Suresh Shakya, coordinator for EE
- Feedbacks from respective teachers of four different schools
- Presentation of concluding remarks and thanked to the students and teachers by Mrs. Puspa Shrestha, Vice President CENEED
- Distribution of plant seeds with soil mixed with compost fertilizer in a plastic glass and briefing about the responsibility of seed germination and its care by student themselves by coordinator Suresh Shakya and ask them to report after two/three months to CENEED for further tree plantation in SEP in their names.
Feedbacks from teachers and students and their remarks:
All the 21 students and 4 teachers from four different public schools had participated very actively and enthusiastically. They were very happy to participate in such EE program. They showed a great interest to show their art, skills and environmental knowledge they learned in the program. They were seriously involve to make an unique presentation. They display their higher knowledge of environment and art skills. All the students and teachers thanked the coordinator and management committee of EE program for imparting the knowledge of flora and fauna of SEP and Swayambhu. They already requestedto conduct such EE program now and then.
